lyrics

This is a poem about a woman
The woman
My mother
Who expelled me from her womb
Ripe with the pain
A mother much the woman
Three times over a woman
This woman
Who became my mother

This woman
My mother
Was much a woman
Who suddenly found her-self
A woman trapped in the world
Confined by domesticity
Of having to do the woman’s work
Because men had stolen her work
Fucked up the world
Only too give her back the work
They
The men thought were less then my mother
My mother
A woman
Could do some things
Better than we
Who were the men

We who were their fathers
We who were thy brothers
We who were our sisters
We who wear the articles
Worn by the woman
So this be their lot

For the woman’s work be hard work
Woman’s work be back breaking work
Woman’s work be spirit beating work
Because woman’s work be baby on her back

Beating sun down on we
Picking, washing, scrubbing all day
Then she do the same for the men
Because it starts back up tomorrow
